Method 1 Remove via mobile app
Using this method, there are 3 steps involved and can be done from the app or desktop version.
First, we’ll have to disable the two-factor authentication in your Instagram account as this feature uses your mobile number to send you a text message to secure your account.
The next step is then to add an email address if you haven’t already registered in your account so that if you forget your password, you can reset it or in the event you need to restore your account.
And lastly, we can remove the phone number from within the Instagram app.
Step 1 Disable the two-factor authentication
- Tap on the profile icon in the bottom right corner
- Tap the 3-line on top right corner and select Settings
- Select Security > Two-Factor Authentication
- If you see the option Get Started, that means you don’t have Two-Factor Authentication enabled. Go to Step 2
- But if you do, then you’ll see the option to enable or disable Text Message
Step 2 Add email address
- Tap on the profile icon in the bottom right corner.
- Tap the 3-line on top right corner and select Settings
- Select Account > Personal information
- If you don’t see your email listed, tap on it and enter your email address.
- Then tap Send Confirmation Email
- Open the email from Instagram and tap Confirm Email Address
Step 3 Remove phone number
Once you’ve confirmed your email address, you can remove your phone number:
- Tap on the profile icon in the bottom right corner.
- Tap the 3-line on top right corner and select Settings
- Select Account > Personal information
- Go to Phone and delete the number
- Hit Next and you’re done.
Method 2 Remove via web browser
If you’re using a web browser, the process is similar to what we did on the app. The only difference here is that we’ll be doing it on the desktop.
Step 1 Disable the two-factor authentication
Follow the steps described above as you can turn off two-factor authentication via the Instagram app.
Step 2 Add email address
- For the web version, go to instagram.com and log in
- Click on your Profile picture on top right corner or in the option menu on the left
- Click on Edit Profile
- If you don’t see your email listed, click on it and enter your email address.
- Then click Send Confirmation Email
- Open the email from Instagram and click Confirm Email Address
Step 3 Remove phone number
Same as step 2 above, while in the Edit Profile page, scroll down and go to Phone number field and delete your phone number.
Method 3 Disable Contacts Syncing
The last method is to stop contacts syncing from your device to Instagram. This will prevent other people from seeing your number associated with your account or profile.
And at the same time, Instagram will not be able to recommend other people to follow you.
To do this, you’ll need to change the settings on your device:
- Tap on the profile icon in the bottom right corner.
- Tap the 3-line on top right corner and select Settings
- Go to Account then Contacts Syncing
- In the Connect Contacts, toggle it off.
Remember, if you have your phone number or email registered under your account and contacts syncing is enabled, your account might be recommended to others who have your contacts information.

How to remove phone number from Instagram business account
For those who have an Instagram business account, you can easily edit your professional account’s page, business category, and contact information straight from the Instagram app.
To change your business information on Instagram including the phone number, follow the steps below.
- From your professional account, tap on Edit profile.
